Dr. Smith has a long-standing interest in improving the quality of care in our healthcare delivery system. Her research evaluates the impact of health system changes on access to and quality of medical care for aging and chronically ill persons. She has extensive experience in the use of health care data for measurement of the quality of care. Her federal grants (R01 HS018368; R01 CA144835; R21 HS021899) involve close collaboration with two healthcare partners: the Wisconsin Collaborative for Healthcare Quality and UW Health. Dr. Smith is also Director of the Community Academic Partnerships Core of the UW-Madison Institute for Clinical and Translational Research, and Associate Director for Population Sciences at the UW Comprehensive Cancer Center. In these roles, she is responsible for coordinating the development of new resources for community-partnered research across UW schools, colleges, departments, and centers. Dr. Smith teaches two courses at the University of Wisconsin: PHS 650-35 (Introduction to Translational and Outcomes Research) and PHS/ISyE 703 (Quality of Healthcare).
